One of three states in the nation that won't issue bonds for highway construction. As a result they won't do countless stuff that needs to be done. And if they finally do start, it takes them ten times as long as most other states. I could spend all day listing sections of interstates and other highways in Tennessee that need to be widened because of heavy traffic levels, and telling you about projects that they had been planning for 20 or 30 years before they actually got started. And I could spend all day talking about projects that in the time it took to complete, other states completed ten times as much. (What's even more embarrassing is that the other two states that don't borrow money are South Dakota and Wyoming; states with populations less that that of Nashville or Memphis, for Christ's sake!) Just look up how they used to be able to get stuff done more than 40 years ago, before they quit using bonding, and how it literally changed overnight when they quit!
